CAPETONIANS TO SAVE LIVES THIS WINTER AS GOOD HOPE FM’S ‘KEEP CAPE TOWN WARM’ RETURNS

As the chill of winter begins to creep in, Good Hope FM, Cape Town’s Original, in partnership with Community Chest, is once again calling on Capetonians to jump in and save lives, by rallying behind its long-standing winter CSI campaign, Keep Cape Town Warm – #GoodHopeFMKCTW25.

The campaign was officially launched during a live broadcast of S3 Expresso this morning.

For the past 15 years, this initiative has been a growing beacon of hope for the vulnerable, collecting thousands of blankets and non-perishable food items annually to support those living in the cold. This year, with Community Chest contributing a generous R97,000 to the campaign and Good Hope FM expanding its reach into previously unvisited areas, the station is more committed than ever to making a meaningful impact across Cape Town. In 2024, Capetonians donated over 5 000 non-perishable food items, 1 400 single blankets and 47 bags of second-hand clothing.

This year’s targets are even bigger: 6 000+ food items, 2 000 blankets, and a significant increase in monetary donations to help to punch a proper hole in the cold. All donations will be distributed weekly via Community Chest’s network of trusted NGOs to ensure swift, direct support where it’s needed most. Monetary donations can be made safely through the Community Chest’s online portal.

Donations of new blankets and non-perishable food items can be dropped off at the Good Hope FM studios at 209 Beach Road, Sea Point, or at any of the following outside broadcasts, where you’ll not only get to hang out with Good Hope FM presenters like the Roger Goode Breakfast gang, but also be part of something truly powerful:

“For us at Good Hope FM, this is personal. We’re not just sending hopeful thoughts and wishes, we’re doing something practical and saving lives,” says Masi Mdingane, Business Manager for Good Hope FM and 5FM. “These are our listeners, our communities. We’re showing up where it matters most – on the ground, in the cold, for the people who need us. We urge individuals, families, schools, businesses and celebrity friends of the station to show up too – even challenging others on social media. Donate what you can. Every blanket, every tin of food, every rand counts”, he concludes.

Community Chest CEO, Peter Heeger, says, “We are grateful to continue as the official distribution partner of Good Hope FM Keep Cape Town Warm Campaign for the 15th consecutive year. We are especially excited to be working with Roger Goode, the breakfast team and the new Good Hope FM line-up. Following the incredible success of the 2024 campaign, where we helped 41-NGOs across the Western Cape, we are eager to build on this momentum. This year, we look forward to surpassing these achievements and setting new records.”

Capetonians are encouraged to donate, share, and challenge friends, family, and coworkers to match or beat their contributions using the hashtag #GoodHopeFMKCTW25.

Together, we can keep Cape Town warm — one blanket, one meal, one donation, one life saved at a time.
