Good Hope FM, Cape Town\u2019s Original, will be lending a helping hand to Philisa Abafazi Bethu (isiXhosa for \u201cHeal Our Women\u201d) – a gender-based violence organisation based in Steenberg, Cape Town \u2013 this Mandela Day.<\/p>\n
The Morning Show with Leigh-Anne Williams will be broadcasting live from the organization on 18 July between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. The station will also stream the event across its social media platforms, with all your favourite Good Hope FM presenters spending 67 minutes at the organisation.<\/p>\n
In addition to delivering much-needed essentials and some treats, the team will get their cooking gloves on – preparing food for 1500 individuals supported by the organization \u2013 and will also have a healthy dose of fun and games up their sleeves to bring enough cheer to chase away the winter blues, especially for the elderly beneficiaries.<\/p>\n
Philisa Abafazi Bethu was founded by feminist activist and community leader, Lucinda Evans, in 2008, with its mission focused on healing women with special emphasis on gender-based violence prevention and child protection.
\nOver the years, the organisation has expanded to include programmes that reach young women, the elderly, children, LGBTQIA+ persons and men in the community of Lavender Hill, Steenberg and the surrounding areas. It boasts an emergency 14 day safe house for women and their children who are victims of GBV, an emergency 5 day safe house for LGBTQIA+ survivors GBV and a 5 day safe house for cisgender males who are victims of GBV.<\/p>\n
