From the age of 8 Ian recorded himself with his little shows on cassette and because of this love for music (and his own voice) Ian pursued radio broadcasting.

Ian Ward started his 13 year career in radio broadcasting off in campus radio. Moving through various commercial stations, Ian started and established retail giant Click’s retail radio station. Ian was a finalist in the Cape Talk “Voice of 2000” competition.

When not on air, Ian performs in his cover band “Watts Up!” around popular tourist destinations in the V&A Waterfront, and along both South Peninsula and West Coast. Ian plays drums in his spare time, admitting that he is a ‘closet drummer’, rarely playing in front of an audience. Ian says: “I have some musical instruments at home and I invite friends over for a braai and a night of playing music, it’s not rock star stuff, but its always fun!”

Ian is a voice artists for television and radio adverts around the country, as well as for telephone on hold systems and retail stores. “I still get a fright when I hear myself in a store on television – my friends usually just laugh and sometimes playfully mock me” laughs Ian.

Ian is a cat lover, and he has a munchkin cat called Slomo. “The name came to me when I found her, she was so docile, like in a constant dwaal. Nothing has changed since. She’s still slow….” Ian explains.

“It really pains me when humans harm helpless animals who can’t talk for or defend themselves.” Ian says, “I lose total respect for people who possess it in them to hurt animals. I say if you can’t look after an animal, you’re not fit to have children or life partners for that matter…”

Ian loves his job, and takes it seriously. “You can change a person's day in 30 seconds, that’s powerful stuff, but a responsibility not to be taken lightly.” Ian adds.
