GOOD HOPE FM CAMPUS DJ SEARCH 2012 – WINNER ANNOUNCED

The winner of the third Good Hope FM Campus DJ search was announced on Friday, 25 May 2012 during the Good Hope FM Breakfast show with Guy McDonald on Good Hope FM, winning a one year on-air DJ contract on Good Hope FM.

Nick Hamman, a second year student in BA Humanities at the University of Stellenbosch was announced as the third winner in this popular competition.  He is the second winner that studies at the University of Stellenbosch, as the 2011 winner, Dell Mabunda, is also a student at the University of Stellenbosch, and he is also the first male winner in this annual competition.

Nick, one of 4 children, is a born and bred Capetonian and has been hosting an afternoon show on MFM for the past year.  After completing this term’s exams, he will start to undergo a training process at the Good Hope FM studios in Sea Point and will be offered an on-air slot where he will get to present a show.

The competition ran from mid-April this year when Good Hope FM gave students at various campuses across the Peninsula the opportunity to win an on-air DJ contract on the station during the third Good Hope FM Campus DJ search.

The aim of this search was to find the best on-air DJ from campuses around the city.  Campuses that agreed to participate in this year’s search were the University of the Western Cape (UWC), University of Stellenbosch, Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) Cape Town, CPUT Bellville and Varsity College in Rondebosch.

Due to the overwhelming response in 2010 and 2011, it was again decided to also open the floor for students who attend smaller independent tertiary institutions and they had the opportunity to enter as wild cards at Canal Walk to test their skills in the Campus DJ Search.

“We are always on the lookout to find young fresh talent who aspire to be in the broadcasting industry and who can be added to our already dynamic line-up. Campuses are the obvious hunting ground as many of the station’s DJ’s like Guy McDonald, Nigel Pierce and SeanO started their broadcasting careers on campus radio.” says Good Hope FM Programme Manager, Gerard Muller.

Six finalists battled it out on air as each one was invited to co-host a show with Stan Mars (Mondays to Thursdays from 22:00 to 02:00).  The finalists were, Lesego Mashabela from Varsity College, Khanya Klerz from CPUT Bellville, Keegon Weber from the UWC, Siki Msuseni CPUT Cape Town, Diana Mabuya as the wild card entry selected at Canal Walk and of course the winner, Nick Hamman, fromthe University of Stellenbosch.

“Good Hope FM Campus DJ search in 2010  and 2011 were both a huge success and we realised that there was so much undiscovered talent at the various tertiary institutions, that the search is now a fixed entry on the station’s annual event calendar.” says Good Hope FM’s Marketing Manager, Meegan Kieffer.

Nick Hamman will be joining the rest of the Good Hope FM team on air in the near future, one of his new team mates is the 2010 Good Hope FM Campus DJ Search winner, Nosipo Tisani from CPUT, who hosts her show, Streets & NY’s, every Saturday morning from 02:00 to 06:00.  The team at Good Hope FM wishes Nick all the best and look forward to hearing him on air.
