For most guys, doing anything in the kitchen is so daunting. They'd rather strip an engine and put it back together blind-folded before attempting to cook or bake.
So here is something simple for guys to do and you won't even have to touch a stove or oven.
Many say that the best rice is made in a pot but I can show you how you can do this in the microwave. And not just any rice...my special yellow rice.
First get a microwave friendly plastic mixing type bowl. The ones that can take about 1.5L of water.
Pour a cup or two of rice in. The amount depends on the amount of people you're serving.
Now add about 2 teaspoons of salt, a few pieces of stick cinnamon and a generous amount of tumeric (borrie) - about a tablespoon or so should do.
Boil some water and pour it over the rice. If it is a 1.5L bowl you can fill it about 90% of the way.
Now place it in the microwave on maximum for anything between 20-30mins.
Basmati rice will take longer than white fragrant rice.
Basmati is my favourite for yellow rice and this should take about 20mins in the microwave
After the 20mins, take the rice out. Rinse and strain it in a colander.
It takes about another 20mins to strain properly.
Now for the magical part.
Get your serving dish ready. Dish the rice out into your serving dish but in 3 layers and with each layer, add 3 teaspoons of sugar and with the last layer, throw in a about a serving dish size helping of butter or margarine and then put this back into the microwave for another 10mins.
After that stir it through and you good to go.
Tasty, sweet, yellow rice and you off the couch
