The Grammy's!
Yes, like so many of you, I watched the re-run of the Grammys on TV last night, and was suitably blown away.
Beyonce goes down in Grammy history as the first female to take home 6 of those golden trophies in one night! Six out of ten! Not bad! Along with hubby Jay Z’s Grammy for Best Rap Solo for D.O.A. on the same night, they may have to renovate the mantelpiece above their fireplace to hold all those weighty awards!
I’m really chuffed that Maxwell won Best R&B album and Best Male R&B Vocal performance for “Pretty Wings”. Watch his long-awaited album, “Blacksummers Night” fly off the shelves this week! I should’ve just bought my copy when I had the chance! His performance of Grammy-winning “Pretty Wings” was off the hook, and his duet with Roberta Flack shows that the crooner hasn’t lost his mojo after going M.I.A. for 8 years. Just gotta get used to him without his trademark ‘fro. Go Maxwell!
I was nogal disappointed that the Black Eyed Peas didn’t win Record of the Year for ‘I gotta feeling”, but at least that song scooped “Best Pop Performance by a Group with Vocals”. It would’ve been a crime for that song not to win something, don’t you agree? Then again, winning 3 Grammys isn’t all that bad. And even though David Guetta lost out to Lady Gaga’s “The Fame” in the Best Dance Album category, he should be proud that his collabo with the Peas landed them a Grammy for “I gotta feeling”. When I watched them perform last night, I still couldn’t believe I got to meet Fergie a few years ago in Texas. What a honey!
And what did you think about Pink’s acrobatics? She looked a bit uneasy at first, but then she stunned everyone with her circus act after getting dipped in what looked like water? And singing her heart out all the way through! The last time someone went flying through the air at an awards ceremony, was Bruno at the MTV Awards, we all know how that ended. Feathers everywhere. Mind you, she did look a bit dizzy afterwards. Maybe that’s why she left the stage in such a hurry. Lekka dronk from all that mid-air spinning. Lol.
And yes, like you, I waited in anticipation for the Mind-blowing Mega 3D tribute to Michael Jackson. I even had my 3D glasses from Avatar on standby! I was expecting to see Michael featured in 3D or something else “out there”. Instead, they just had big names singing the Earth song in front of big screens displaying 3D images. And there I was, on my couch, wearing my super-cool Avatar 3D glasses, like a nool, watching it in normal 2D. Maybe you had to be there to experience it, but to be honest, I somehow expected more. Your thoughts?
And finally, as expected, that hit song “God in me” by Mary Mary featuring Kiki Sheard took home the Grammy for Best Gospel Song! That song’s been cooking on Sancti-FUNK-tified on Good Hope Fm on Sunday evenings, and I’m so amped it won!
