CapeNature and acclaimed musician, Jimmy Nevis, will once again merge conservation tourism and top class entertainment in the form of a unique two-night outdoor musical camp-out experience from 28 February to 01 March 2020. CapeNature’s scenic Algeria campsite, in the Cederberg Wilderness Area, will play host to music fans for yet another unforgettable weekend.

The 2020 edition will offer plot-sharing and individual tickets for purchase. Groups who would prefer an entire plot to themselves will still have the opportunity to book a package for up to six people. Campers will be treated to an array of musical performances by Nevis and supporting acts, including Paxton, Rowlene, Dani Bagel and Acoustic Element,  - all whilst enjoying serene mountains views in an outdoor amphitheatre setting.

CapeNature CEO, Dr Razeena Omar, says she is looking forward to hosting this unique event with Jimmy Nevis for a second time.

“CapeNature fostered a relationship with Jimmy Nevis who understands why we need to conserve the natural environment while enjoying what we do. We have a huge respect for Jimmy Nevis, the music that he makes and the energy that he brings to our work. It was very important to include him in the first celebration of our 20 years in conservation and we have no doubt that round two promises to be even better”.

The multi-nominated South African singer and songwriter who has a strong love for nature added that the collaboration was a no-brainer.

“I love nature and I’ve learnt so much from CapeNature about conservation and respecting this incredible natural space.  I am particularly excited about the single tickets available for my fans this year and for the people who love both nature and music. I want young people to see nature as a space for them to come out, enjoy, and appreciate places that are a big part of our heritage.”, added Nevis.

Exciting additional elements for Camp-Out 2020 will include food stalls, tastings and greater involvement of communities from the West Coast region. The collaboration of local stakeholders encompasses CapeNature’s goal of being an inclusive entity for all, including local tourism stakeholders surrounding our reserves.

The Camp-Out will be taking place from 28 February to 01 March 2020. Ticket sales are now LIVE via Quicket.

Ticket prices will range from R700 for a single plot sharing ticket (you will be allocated a plot) to share with 5 other people for 2 nights and R2680 for an entire plot for a group up to 6 people for 2 nights.

Camp-Out 2020 with SA musician Jimmy Nevis revives love for nature conservation

(Cape Town, March 2020)

The Western Cape biodiversity conservation authority, CapeNature, once again played host to the annual spectacular Camp-Out with acclaimed musician Jimmy Nevis from Friday, 28 February to Sunday, 01 March 2020.

Camp-Out 2020 proved to be a unique two-night outdoor musical camping experience, combining the finest South African vocal and instrumental talent with an appreciation of our shared natural heritage and nature conservation.

The popular music camp saw Rowlene, Paxton, Dani Bagel and Acoustic Element leave their hearts on stage in an outdoor amphitheatre setting framed by majestic mountain vistas at Algeria campsite in the Cederberg Wilderness.

Campers delighted in rubbing shoulders with the who’s who of South Africa’s entertainment industry while gaining a deeper understanding to conserve the natural environment and the urgency of heeding the global climate change.

CapeNature treated campers to sunrise outdoor fitness sessions along the waterside, guided hiking trails to a majestic waterfall and live demonstrations by Good Hope FM radio presenters. The local community, including learners from the Algeria school, participated enthusiastically and arranged a pop-up market, bringing delicious tastes and flavours to the campsite in the form of food and products sourced from local ingredients. CapeNature Executive Director for Eco-Tourism and Access, Mr Sheraaz Ismail, says the collaboration of local stakeholders from communities neighbouring nature reserves, helps to realise CapeNature’s goal of being an inclusive entity for all.

“The importance of this unique event is to provide people with special experiences, especially young people and young families to promote access to nature reserves. Also growing a new constituency of users who under normal circumstances would not access our nature reserves. This event in its second year is growing from strength to strength. The undeniably talented artist line-up ensured that we doubled up on bookings and capacity,” adds Ismail.

The multi-nominated South African singer and songwriter, Jimmy Nevis who has a strong love for nature, was especially gratified and touched to see the diverse range of people who attended Camp-Out 2020.

“As an artist to form part of, and witness, the power of music and nature is a true privilege. One that I will continue to passionately drive alongside CapeNature to effect a positive behaviour towards nature conservation among my peers,” says Nevis.
